A few words on how I work.

Who is the most capable of being uncomfortable rises the fastest. There is a huge correlation between a capacity for discomfort and whole-heartedness. If you cannot manage discomfort, it sends you barreling into perfectionism, blame, rationalizing—without taking away key learnings.

- Brené Brown, PhD

I practice an embodied, experiential, psychodynamic psychotherapy, informed by the Interpersonal and Relational movements within psychoanalytic clinical research. This kind of work is both collaborative and active, as well as challenging, and tends to bring with it dimensions of somatic phenomena (i.e., felt experiencing) as your experience of the relational comes into conscious awareness.

If you are picturing this treatment model as one where I listen and then render “objective” interpretations, you may lay it to rest. Instead, image an active, engaging, dynamic experience with another human. One that brings forward aspects of your life that may have been previously dormant, hidden, or difficult to access.

Apart from my foundation in psychodynamic theory and practice, my work draws from my background in the fine arts, social work theory, political thought, and various cultural and religious traditions. My work is, for all intents and purposes, secular and grounded in peer-reviewed research, and has been, in one form or another, a long-held area of study throughout my life. I bring a conscientious and enduring passion to this work, and I consider it a privilege to undertake it with you.

“Analyzing the relationship between what is talked about and the behavior that goes along with what’s talked about constitutes the psychoanalytic process and is what distinguishes it , essentially, from all other forms of psychotherapy.”

- Edgar Levenson
